EOI for hosting 17th Australasian Plant Breeding Conference

The Organising Committee of the 16th Australasian Plant Breeding Conference would like to call for expression of interest from interested groups in Australasia for hosting the 17th APBC.

We trust the upcoming conference will re-invigorate our community and demonstrate the value of meeting regularly to share ideas and learn from each other. We would like to leverage this enthusiasm to maintain momentum for the conference.

While there have been several challenges in holding the 16th APBC, we hope the conference will continue every 2-3 years. We anticipate that the current committee will be able to forward seeding money such as was transferred to us from the organisers of the previous conference (held in Victoria). It would be ideal to have a registered organisation in place for the ongoing management of the conference, however we are unsure this will happen by May.

We invite interested groups to submit an EOI to Craig Hardner (c.hardner@uq.edu.au) by 5pm AEST 29th April so we can review prior to the conference. Briefly, we would like the EOI to address the selection criteria:

- Proposed location and dates
- Commitment to Australasian Plant Breeding community (e.g. representation of crops, enthusiasm for APBC)
- Diversity (e.g. when was the last time held in current state or country, links to industry, organisations involved in proposed committee),
- Evidence of capacity to run a successful conference

The chair (Craig Hardner), Treasurer (David Lee) and Scientific Chair (Emma Mace) of the 16th APBC will select the next host. Bids are encouraged from teams of multiple organisations and the involvement of the private sector which has supported this conference strongly.

We look forward to seeing you all on the Gold Coast in 4 weeks.
